Placing an Animal in PAWS' Adoption Program

While PAWS often has no foster openings to take in more homeless animals, in some cases, if acceptable temporary housing can be provided for the animal, PAWS will assist in finding a home for the animal. But please respect and follow our process if you wish to place an animal through PAWS. We have placed many animals over the years and the adoption rules and processes presented here have been developed in the best interest of the animals. These are the requirements that must be met if PAWS is to consider placing an animal:

1. The animal must be fully vaccinated and current on heartworm prevention

2. Copies of vet records must be furnished to PAWS before the animal will be offered for adoption.

3. A signed owner release from the owner of record must be provided at time of placement.

4. The animal must be housed in humane conditions.

5. The animal must not be people aggressive.

6. Theanimal must be sterilized.

7. The current guardian must agree to adhere to PAWS’ adoption process when screening possible applicants.

PAWS will not place animals for breeders. While we are heart-broken for these poor animals, conditions will never improve if breeders are allowed to dump their "undesirables" while continuing to make money.

1. PAWS retains the right to periodically check on the animal anytime in the future. If inhumane living conditions are found or the adoption agreement has been breached in any way, PAWS retains the right to reclaim the animal.

2. A description of the animal and its personality and a picture must be provided.

3. Once an animal is placed and the adoption finalized, the previous owner or guardian will not visit the animal or in any way retain control of or contact with the animal. It is very important the animal be allowed to bond with its new family in a stable situation and not be confused.

4. A donation of $25 is required to help defray expenses. This is necessary to ensure our volunteers do not waste time and effort just to discover the animal has already been placed by an owner without our knowledge. It is attention that could have been used to save the life of a homeless animal.

5. PAWS reserves the right to determine which animals will be offered for adoption through the Adoption Program.
